Clothing is powerful. It makes a statement. It tells a story.

For Wear it Wednesday, I really wanted to dig deeper into costumes or some kind of Disney clothing. As I was looking,  I just happened to stumble across this docuseries on Disney+ titled Prop Culture. At first I wasn’t sure that I could connect the two: props and clothing–BUT BOY WAS I WRONG! Wardrobe is a prop in any film that you watch. Clothing is powerful. It makes a statement. It tells a story. Costumes are designed specifically for each character and that outfit has more meaning, depth and it is thoughtfully put together. Every. Single. Detail. Costume designers have a very important role in any film. They bring the characters to life. Think about it, clothing places you in a certain time period, it gives you a sense of what a person may be like,  and even helps the actor get into character.

Prop Culture is my new favorite show! Dan Lanigan is a movie prop collector; he takes you on an AMAZING exploration of movie props and costumes from some of your favorite Disney movies to include:

  • Mary Poppins
  • Tron
  • The Nightmare Before Christmas
  • Pirates of the Caribbean:The  Curse of the Black Pearl
  • Honey, I Shrunk the Kids
  • The Chronicle of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
  • Who Framed Roger Rabbit
  • The Muppet Movie

Dan gets together with the crew, filmmakers, and actors from these films and they reminisce and tell incredible stories from their experiences; sharing the history behind these treasures. He takes you to the Disney archives warehouse (where movie props and artifacts are stored), he visits private collectors, and he, himself, has even helped to track down lost movie props and see that they are restored and returned to Disney for future generations to have!

The very first episode will have you hooked and even bring you to tears. I know it did for me. I really want to share every single part that made me laugh, smile (and cry) but I don’t want to spoil it. Check out the trailer and try the first episode to see for yourself!

After this, next time you are watching a movie,  you might start taking a closer look at the wardrobe.Clothing is powerful. It makes a statement. It tells a story.

It’s Mickey’s birthday today! Let’s take a look one of our favorite characters of all time! He certainly has made his mark in this world and his character’s costumes have evolved through the years. I never even realized just how much they actually have changed. You might even be surprised yourself to see what the first Mickey Mouse character costume looked like. I know I am glad that it has transformed and is now what we all know and love today. ❤

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com] Disney Dan, on Youtube, made a great video showcasing the Evolution of the Mickey Mouse character costumes that you see at the parks! I have highlighted some of the great costume changes the have taken place over the years. You can view the whole video here

Thank you Disney Dan for your awesome Disney Fan YouTube channel.

Matching Disney shirts have become quite the trend when guests visit Disney parks. Whether it is a special occasion or  just a family trip to the park; you will often see families, couples, and friends in coordinating colors or in personalized tees. Which team are you on: Matching Disney Shirts or No Matching Shirts? Take the poll and let us know!

If you know me and have seen our pictures from Disney, it is obvious that I am Team Matching Disney Shirts! I don’t even know how it got started, but I just love coordinating my family with matching tees. I sometimes get personalized tees made for special occasions, like the kid’s birthday, but most often I just find matching colors or sets. Sometimes we will match as a whole family or just the boys and girls will match one another, or the kiddos will match and the parents match (but still all coordinate as a family 😂) I can’t get enough of it! It makes our trips to the parks even more special for us!

I typically find matching shirts at my usual shopping spots or online. Whenever I have had shirts made, I have found a local military spouse that has a small business and buy from them. I don’t have any small shops or recommendations at the moment so feel free to comment with your favorite shop for personalized shirts if you have one. In the end it certainly doesn’t matter what you wear; it just matters that you’re having fun! ❤Sarah
