Yesterday marked the 70th anniversary of Walt Disney’s Alice in Wonderland! Animation has come a LONG way in that time; however, one thing remains the same…animators use live action models (sometimes even themselves) to bring forth realistic animation. Let’s jump down the rabbit hole to take a look at behind the scenes footage filmed for the animators.

Young 14-year old Kathryn Beaumont, who voiced Alice, also acted out various scenes in her Alice costume. The live-action footage filmed often required props and unique techniques to make the scene work.

Other models, animators, assistants, etc., would step in for other characters.

I love seeing the behind the scenes images. For more information about the film, visit Alice-in-wonderland.net
