Yule Laugh at This Hot Mess

For this Foodie Friday, I tried to replicate three of the Disneyland Paris Advent Calendar Recipes…and “try” I did! It was an absolute mess, worthy of Pinterest epic fail proportions. So come and enjoy the train wreck that it was!

First up, Minnie’s Yule Log. Let me preface with the fact that I am not a spectacular baker. I am not a bad one either, just average. Never mind that the measurements were in grams; I totally felt comfortable with Google converting them to cups. Fun fact, they didn’t convert equally! Same for the oven temp. Cool Cool. I was destined for failure, but since I committed, I gave an honest shot!

Guys, it was TERRIBLE! The sponge cake was hard and obviously not easily rolled. Who knows where I went wrong. Maybe the incorrect oven temp? Or the measurements. I also kind of skipped an entire step…but it was literally brushing vanilla soaked sugar water on top of the cake. I didn’t think it would be that big of a deal. It also tasted awful. It wasn’t even edible and went into the garbage; because of that, it wasn’t even a fail, it was an epic fail!

At least Riley and I were able to enjoy the chocolate ganache!

Next up, Mickey White Chocolate Chip Cookies. Now, you are probably thinking, “Surely this cannot be any worse!” I will let you decide for yourself.

The recipe’s measurements were already converted, which was a plus! I honestly thought the directions were easy to follow.

So obviously, I put the balls too close together…my bad. I am going to put this as only a minor fail, because it was at least edible AND my daughter still had fun decorating it. Anything that occupies her time is a win in my book!

Since they were edible, I gave the recipe one more chance. Luckily, I had enough batter to make two more cookies.  The second batch was considerably better; and they were only a tad burnt! Great success!

Last but not least, we have Tasty Hot Chocolate. All you need for this is:

-200g of chocolate, melted

-add sprinkles or marshmallows

-freeze for 30 min

-add hot milk  and enjoy!

Reasons why this recipe cannot be classified as a complete success…first off, I did not have enough chocolate. I just used what I had left over. I also did not have a Mickey mold so I used a gingerbread and tree cookie cutter. Since I didn’t have a mold, when I took the chocolate out of the cutter, it broke into pieces! BUT it was still absolutely delicious. At that point I gave up on hot chocolate and ate it as straight up chocolate. And yes, they are both gone and I feel no remorse whatsoever.

I was going to share the measurement conversions for Minnie’s Yule Log but I think if I do, I will not be doing anyone any favors!

If you decide to try your hand at any of these recipes, please let us know! Wishing you all Happy Holidays!
