After a soft opening in December 2020, and a brief closure period (that sent everyone into a panic!), Gideon’s had their official grand opening January 16th. Long lines and a virtual wait time of 12 hours, demonstrates the utmost yumminess of the Bakehouse! Here is everything you need to know about Gideon’s:
The origin of the bakery name is a sad but heartwarming story! The bakery’s creator, Steve Lewis, purchased an antique cookbook published from 1898. Inside, he found doodles from a little boy named Gideon, who long dreamed of becoming a baker. When Steve conceptualized his bakery, he knew he had to pay tribute to that sweet little boy. He named his bakery, Gideon’s Bakehouse™ and filled the shop with curios antiquities, aging books, and eclectic Victorian art.
They opened in October 2016 with only $800, no investors, one employee, and a small 286 sq ft shop in East End Market, Orlando.
Within weeks they began earning the title “Best Cookies in Orlando.”
Gideon’s opened it’s second store, and flagship location, in Disney Springs, on January 16, 2021.
Let's Talk Cookies
Gideon’s has a 6 cookies per person limit. That sounds silly, but since that is equal to almost 3 pounds of cookies…it is probably a good thing!
The insanely mouthwatering cookies are quite complicated to make, sometimes taking over 24 hours!
They are sold on a first come basis.
The early bird gets the cookie! The later the day, the greater chance of the limited edition items being gone.
No freezer items here! All goods are 100% handmade from scratch.
Their cookies are pretty hefty. Must be all that gooey goodness!
They have very high standards and will not ship. (Excuse me, I must go cry now)
They have crafted an intriguing story about the history of the building they occupy at Disney Springs. Be sure to ask about it when you visit them.
And Let Them Eat CAKE!
What’s better than a massive gooey cookie? A massive delectable piece of cake. You can order them by the slice:
Each slice is three layers with thick layers of buttercream between.
Why limit yourself to a slice when you can have the ENTIRE CAKE!!!!
While you cannot preorder any cakes at the Disney Springs location (yet), it was totally worth drooling over the photos.
That's Not All Folks
In addition to their baked goods, Gideon’s also serves up some sweet drinks.
They have assorted merch for the entire family.
And be sure to follow them on social media to learn about sold out items, secret cake slices, and general up to date info.
