“Darn it…no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t forget you.” Finding Dory is an unforgettable film filled with laughter and love. It is also filled with some great Easter Eggs! Let’s dive on in-

A113

The infamous letter/number combination representing the classroom number at the California Institute of Arts is found in every Pixar movie!

It is found on truck destined for “the” Cleveland.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

And also on the adorable sea lion pair- Rudder has A1 while Fluke has 13.

Original Nemo

Finding Dory picks up one year after finding Nemo, but in real life, there was a substantial time difference, 13 years to be exact. By that time the original Nemo voice actor was too old too reprise the role. Pixar made sure to sneak him in somewhere! Alexander Gould (yup, the kid from Weeds!) provided the voices for both transport workers.

Cars

You have to have a sharp eye to spot this subtle Cars reference!

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Captain America

While Cap’ himself doesn’t make an appearance, you can find a likeness of his shield inside the truck.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Inside Out

In the movie Inside Out, Riley and her family move to San Francisco. Since The Marine Life Institute is inspired by the Monterey Bay Aquarium…which is only 2 hours south of San Fran…it would make sense she would go there! Can you spot her?

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Finding Nemo

There are several Easter Eggs from the Finding Nemo movie. First up, Darla:

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

A model of Crush can be seen hanging outside the large tank.

Nemo’s friends: After escaping Doctor Sherman’s tank, the friends made it all the way to the Marine Life Institute. It took them a year…and we are to accept that they survived off of the algae in the bag…but that’s not the point. The point is they escaped a tank to be swooped up, “rescued”, only to be put back into a different tank…and presumably split up. Poor guys!

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

WALL-E

Who doesn’t love the adorable waste collector?! This is a super hard one to see, but one fan spotted a reference to the movie wayyyy off in the background when Hank is about to drop Dory into the tank. No matter how hard I tried, I would not have been able to find that one!

Pixar Shorts

There are two Pixar shorts that are referenced:

Lava was the heartwarming story of a lonely volcano that was shown before Moana.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

PixarPost spotted Piper, the cutest little Sandpiper bird, a short which debuted before Dory!

Pixar

A subtly nod to the co-founder of Pixar can be seen in the hallway behind the scenes at the Institute. The posters seen in the background are showing the construction of the Steve Jobs Building located on Pixar’s Campus. The original Pixar building was renamed in Steve’s honor after his passing in 2011.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

The boat that pulls Dory and Nemo’s friends out of the bay references Pixar Studios’ address: 1200 Park Avenue

And the year Pixar was incorporated: 1986

Pizza Planet

Our post would not be complete without the famous Pizza Planet truck from Toy Story! The Easter Egg Database found the poor truck on the bottom of the ocean floor! It makes us wonder if it was highjacked by toys again…

I love the treasures they sneak in throughout the movie! Which Easter Egg was your favorite? Let us know in the comment section!

Puppies, so many adorable spotted puppies!! One Hundred and One Dalmatians was Disney’s 15th animated film. Even back in 1961, animators were putting in Easter Eggs. The most popular one that can be found throughout the film is…

Hidden Mickeys

Hidden Mickeys can be found in various spots on the puppies and on Pongo’s shoulder, as well as on the title screen at the start of the movie.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Silly Symphonies

In one scene, the pups can be seen watching Springtime from the 1929 Silly Symphonies.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Lady and the Tramp

Lady and the Tramp was released prior to 101 Dalmatians in 1955 and since both films take place in the streets of London, it makes sense that we see the loveable pups pop up in various scenes.

Peg and Butch from Tramp’s former gang, can be seen in Percy’s Pet Shop window. Looks like they were finally caught and will hopefully find a loving home soon!

Jock, Lady and Tramp make their own appearance in the twilight bark scene.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

What’s My Crime?

Over at the delipidated de Vil mansion, we see Horace and Jasper watching a show called “What’s My Crime?” This is a reference to the real life game show, “What’s My Line?” that Walt Disney guest starred on in November of 1956.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

While there are not many, I love the special connection with “What’s My Crime” and Lady & The Tramp! I can’t wait to see what Easter Eggs they put in Cruella!

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming…just keep swimming through these Easter Eggs because there is a TON!

A113

There’s that number again! If you saw our Toy Story post, you might remember that A113 is a reference to the classroom number at the California Institute of Art, where many of the Pixar animators studied.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Bruce

The misunderstood but loveable shark has two noteworthy Easter Eggs, the first being his name. As a great white shark, it was only fitting to name him after the animatronic great white in Jaws. He also is given a famous line (which he makes his own) from another famous moving. “Here’s Johnny!” from The Shining becomes, “Here’s Brucey!”

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

42 Wallaby Way

Who can forget when Dory finally remembered! P. Sherman 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney, Australia is a small salute to stop-motion animation. Someone at Pixar must be a fan of the stop-motion animation series starring Wallace and Gromit!

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Sunny Atlantis

Sunny Atlantis was the mermaid from Pixar’s 1989 short, Knick Knacks. She can be seen as the figurehead of the ship found in Dr. Sherman’s fish tank.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Tiki Statues

Speaking of fish tank, there are three Tiki Statues that were inspired by three Pixar employees.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Peach

Did anyone else notice that Peach the starfish has a star on her back?! I didn’t! It is small treasures like this that Pixar is famous for!

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

And since we are on the topic of treasure, Phillip Sherman’s office is a treasure trove of eggs!

Toy Story Toys

You can’t have a toy chest without Toy Story toys! Check out Buzz, a plane, and the Pixar ball. Kudos to whoever spotted the Pixar ball!

Monsters Inc.

Monsters Inc. was the movie released right before Nemo, so naturally, we can find little gems throughout the office. Like this book, that you can actually purchase!

Or a replica of Boo’s mobile from her room. It had quite a journey from Sully’s back, to the toilet, before being shoved into George Sanderson’s locker.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

That poor monster couldn’t catch a break!

Drawing- This one absolutely blew my mind! There is a drawing that is hung up in the exam room. It is assumed to be from Darla, Dr. Sherman’s niece…OR IS IT?! The same drawing is hanging up in Boo’s  (real name Mary) room. Could she have given it to him? Is he her dentist?!

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Pixar’s Home Base

Pixar Studios is located in Emeryville, California. A cute post card can be found hanging up in the exam room and it appears that the artificial tank plants were made there.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Mr. Incredible

While The Incredibles would not be released until the following year, Mr. Incredible can be seen on a comic that a boy in the waiting room is reading.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

If you look closely at mom’s newspaper, Dr. Sherman has taken out an advertisement for his office and there is also a strange baby beard ad next to it

Diploma

Dr. Sherman has proudly displayed his diploma along with other achievements he has earned.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Andrew Stanton

The director of Finding Nemo, and also the voice of Crush, snuck in some cool nods to his home town. The two lighthouses can be found off Cape Ann and the painting is a famous subject for many artists, called Motif #1.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Jelly Fish

Let’s dive back into the ocean with a classic hidden Mickey!

Turtles

Andrew Stanton voicing Crush isn’t the only egg. Someone notice that the youngest sea turtles have flower patterns on their shells that resemble Hawaiian shirts…righteous, righteous!

Boats

The boats found in Sydney Harbor have some pretty special names. One is named after the Pixar short, For the Birds, while Jerome’s Raft is named after a sculpture with Pixar and the Aeolus 3 is named after Andrew’s father’s boat.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Sunken Boat

Did you know that the net scene was based off of an event that happened in real life?! Instead of the entire boat going down, Pixar had the pole break.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Cars

Here is another early show. The first Cars movie would be release three years later, in 2006, but that did not stop animators from sneaking in Luigi!

Pizza Planet

A Pixar movie would not be complete without the Pizza Planet truck! This famous egg can be seen at the end of the film when all of the fish were escaping from Dr. Sherman’s fish tank.

Well there you have it! This Pixar classic was filled with awesome Easter Eggs! Which one was your favorite and which one really surprised you? Let us know!

Take us away Mike!

When one thinks of Easter Egg’s, Pixar movies are typically the first to come to mind. The truth is Disney has been doing it for numerous years. Let’s dive in (pun intended) to a classic, the start of Disney’s Renaissance period…The Little Mermaid!

Ariel's Grotto

Ariel’s grotto is a treasure trove of human artifacts. We can assume that most were found among ship wrecks that Ariel investigated, which leads to a variety of items.

Abraham Lincoln: This one is pretty random, blink and you will miss it! During Ariel’s song, “Part of Your World”, a bust of the 16th President can be seen sitting on a shelf.

Mary Magdalene: Here we see a replica of Georges de La Tour “Magdalene with the Smoking Flame”. As Ariel literally wonders how fire works, she stares longingly at the flame in the painting. Just as Mary, Ariel is seen as an outcast wanting to be a part of something bigger.

Mr. Limpet

If you do not know who Mr. Limpet is…you are not alone! While ‘The Incredible Mr. Limpet’ is not a Disney movie, the main character, Henry Limpet, is the complete opposite of Ariel as he wants to live his life as a fish in the sea. The fish version of him can be found at the very end of Sebastian’s song, ‘Under the Sea.’

Cinderella

While the beloved Princess does not make an appearance in the movie, there is striking resemblance between her servant outfit and the attire worn by Eric’s maid.

But that isn’t the only reference to the 1950’s movie Cinderella. During Eric’s and Vanessa’s (Ursula) wedding, both the King and Grand Duke are spotted among the guests.

Directors

Director’s John Musker and Ron Clements are the masterminds behind Disney classics, The Great Mouse Detective, Aladdin, Hercules, Treasure Planet, The Princess and the Frog, Moana, and of course, The Little Mermaid. Their likeness can be seen for a brief moment in each of their films. You can find this duo towards the end of the film as guests of Eric’s and Vanessa’s (Ursula) wedding.

Hans Christian Andersen

The film, based off the classic written by Hans Christian Andersen, has a tribute to the author.

At the end of the movie, Ariel is seen sitting on a rock longingly looking at Eric laying on the beach. Her posture mimics the famous “The Little Mermaid” statue which is found in Copenhagen, Denmark, where Andersen once lived.

Hidden Mickeys

Just like in the theme parks, Hidden Mickeys are found in Disney films.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Pals

Then there is Mickey, Donald, and Goofy present for the concert in the beginning scene!

Kermit is there too!

Which Easter Egg is your favorite? Even though I have never seen ‘The Incredible Mr. Limpet’ I love the idea of two creatures desiring opposite lives. Kudos to whoever figured that one out! Share your favorite one in the chat!

Scavenger Hunt- for those interested we made up a Scavenger hunt to keep track of the Easter Eggs as you watch the film or just skip ahead to the post. Either way, we hope you enjoy learning about the Easter Eggs = )

There are soooo many Easter Eggs throughout the Pixar movies. Here are some found in Toy Story, the movie that started it all!

Mickey Watch Clock

Even though Disney did not purchase Pixar until 2006, Pixar honored their partners with a nod to the mouse that started it all.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Pixar Shorts

Check out the bookshelf behind Woody. There are three books that share the same title from three Pixar shorts in the 80’s. One of the authors names on the book ‘Tin Toy’ shares the last name with director John Lasseter. You can also see a Grimm’s Fairy Tale book. Disney has made many animated films based off of the popular fairy tales!

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Luxo Ball

The Pixar or Luxo Ball made it’s first appearance in the shorts: Luxo Jr. and  Red’s Dream. It has made many other appearances throughout Pixar’s films, most famously in the Toy Story movies.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

A113

A113 may seem like an unimportant series of numbers but they are in reference to the classroom number at the California Institute of Arts, where many of the Pixar animators studied.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Dinoco

During the film, Andy’s mom stops at Dinoco for gas. You may recognize Dinoco later in the Cars movie as the sponsor for one of the race cars, “The King”.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Pizza Planet Delivery Truck

Toy Story was the start of a tradition! Some appearances are obvious while others you have to really work to find. To be honest, I do not know how people have found some of the ones they did like Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur. The Pizza Planet Delivery Truck has been confirmed by Pixar to be found in all of their movies except The Incredibles. We are unsure as to why it was not put into that film.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

The Shining Carpet

Well this is an odd one but has a simple explanation… one of the animators is a huge fan of The Shining. Sid’s house was the perfect place for it as we all know Sid is a tad off his rocker.

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

Tool Time

For 8 seasons, Tim Allen was the star of the sitcom Home Improvement. His character, Tim “The Toolman” Taylor, was the host of a home improvement TV show; Binford Tools was the show’s sponsor!

[See image gallery at offstagewdw.com]

I love the Easter Eggs that they sneak into the movie. My favorite is the Pizza Planet Delivery Truck. I love how it has now become a tradition to put it in the other films. I am always on the lookout for it! Which one is your favorite? Let us know in the comment section!
